The Cardinals lost 17-7 to the nationally-ranked New York State (B) Finalist Brighton High School Barons at Fannon Field on Monday, April 14. Ireton was down 11-3 at halftime. Goalies Olivia Cole had four saves and Amelia Cole had one save.

Despite Monday’s defeat, the Ireton girls’ lacrosse team recovered nicely by digging deep, focusing on the task at hand, and defeating 16-8 the nationally ranked Springfield High School (DelCo-Pennsylvania) Cougars on Thursday, April 17, at Fannon. BI was down early 1-3, but came back and it was 6-6 at halftime. In the second half the Cardinals just overwhelmed Springfield with a much better scoring attack, strong defense, and excellent passing. Seven different players scored goals and five different players got assists for the Cardinals. Sofield had four goals-five assists; Mathews got four goals-one assist; Cunningham notched three goals; Kayla Marshall had two goals-one assist; Kaitlin Luzik got one goal-three assists; Larkin notched one goal-one assist; and Duperrouzel had one goal. Goalies Olivia Cole had 3 saves and Amelia Cole got 3 saves.

Bishop Ireton is now 5-1 in the WCAC and 10-2 overall with six games left in the regular season. The latest VISAA state poll has Ireton ranked #2.
