The Bishop Ireton Cardinals took down Bishop McNamara 13-0 on Saturday at McNamara after slamming homestanding Mustangs with seven runs in the fifth inning.
The Cardinals were led by a flawless day at the dish by James Swiger, who went 3-3 against Bishop McNamara’s pitching. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the third and fifth innings. The Alexandrians scored 13 runs on 11 hits and were the benficiaries of three McNamara errors.
Robert Corallo kept Bishop McNamara off the scoreboard for all five innings he was on the rubber, pitching a shutout on two hits while ringing up five strikeouts. Corallo surrendered only two hits and the Cardinals committed only one error behind the sophomore.
Justin McNeil was charged with the loss. He lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
The Cardinals return home to host Bishop O’Connell on Tuesday, St. Johns on Thursday, before a weekend trip Saturday to DeMatha, closing the regular season with Good Counsel at Frank Mann Field on Monday, April 28th.
