Mustangs edge Ireton, 2-0 in Softball

Senior Susie Rhodes collected one of only 3 base hits in 2-0 setback Saturday to Bishop McNamara.

After scoring ten runs on Friday, the Ireton bats got quiet on Saturday afternoon as the redbirds fell to Bishop McNamara 2-0. The Mustangs scratched together a run in the second and added an insurance run in the fourth to complete the day’s scoring. McNamara’s Lori Irons picked up the win for Forestville visitors.

Ireton could not take advantage of another strong pitching performance from Susie Rhodes who struck out 8 while only giving up 2 earned runs. The offense could only scatter three hits with only a single runner reaching second base.

“We saw some improvement on defense today,” commented head coach Terri Pearson. “Overall, the pitchers are a bit ahead of the batters at this point in the season and I expect our bats to warm up soon.”

Ireton and McNamara meet again on Monday afternoon to kick off a full week of softball. The girls play host to Bishop O’Connell on Tuesday and Saint John’s on Friday before traveling to Richmond for a double header on Saturday.
