The Bishop Ireton Softball team shut the door early on Holy Cross, capturing a 10-0 shutout victory on Friday. The win evens their season record at 1-1.
Ten runs in the first three innings allowed Ireton to put the game away early. In the first, a walk by Clara Boggs, a bases loaded walk by Susie Rhodes, a hit batsman and a fielder’s choice supplied the early offense.
The redbirds increased their lead with six runs in the third. A single by Molly Jeffers ignited the offense, scoring Dominique Gil. That was followed up by a Heather Pearson single, plating Angela Kammen.
Heather Pearson was hot from the plate for the Cardinals going 2-4, driving in one run and scoring two others. She singled in the first and third innings.
Senior Pitcher Susie Rhodes kept Holy Cross off the scoreboard for all 5 1/3 innings she was in the circle. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out four.
Remarking on the first victory of the season, head coach Terri Pearson commented, “After all the poor weather, it was just great to get out on the field and play. Am really proud of how well the girls adapted to a string on indoor practices.”
The Cardinals return to action Saturday March 21st when they host Bishop McNamara.
