Returning to WCAC play on Thursday, the Bishop Ireton tennis team dropped a very tough 5-4 decision at the Bishop McNamara home courts.
Ireton’s doubles teams staked the Cardinals to a 2-1 lead. Garrett Beauch and Peter Murphy won at #2 doubles 8-5, and freshman Braden Hoagland and Nick Domahoski rolled at #3 doubles 8-1.
Captain Dylan Louison won 8-2 at #4 singles to take a third match, and Freshman Murphy continued his strong first season, winning at #6 singles 8-0 to tie the team match at 4-4. With the team match tied at 4-4, Junior Austin Baney was edged by his Mustangs opponent at #5 singles 8-6 .
” A very tough match that could have gone either way. The players gave me what they had and I’m proud of their effort. We will put this one behind us and get ready for St. Mary’s Ryken tomorrow.” said the Cardinals’ head coach, Tom Noone.
The Cardinals entertain the Knights tomorrow in the last home match for four seniors.
