The Cardinal netters swung into a busy week by visiting their neighbors at Episcopal on Tuesday, March 24. The Maroon, traditional powers from the IAC, swept the Varsity 7-0, and beat the JV team in their first match of the year 6-1. Aidan Scannel and Alex Rostron took their #1 doubles match 8-5 for Bishop Ireton.

On Thursday the Cardinals varsity returned to WCAC action with a home match against St. John’s. Ireton got off to a flying start with Senior Matthew Pham winning at #1 Singles 8-2, and Senior Alex Celis rolling over his Cadet opponent at #2 singles 8-4.

Singles matches from numbers three to six were won by St. John’s in close matches. Garrett Beauch lost at #3 8-3, while Dylan Louison dropped a 8-3 decision at #4 singles. Junior Austin Baney lost a tight match at #5 singles 8-4, and Freshman Peter Murphy dropped a 8-4 decision at #6 singles.
Beauch and Murphy pushed their St. Johns opponents to the limit at #2 doubles, losing their match 9-8 and by a score of 7-5 in the tie-breaker. The Cadets headed back to Military Road with a closer- than- the-score indicates 7-2 win.

The loss dropped the Cardinals to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in WCAC play.   Bishop Ireton continues WCAC play with an away match against O’Connell on Friday, March 27.
