Ice hockey wraps up season, including pair of NVSHL all star selections

The Cardinals were young, but attracted a large number of players biding well for the hockey future at Bishop Ireton.

The 2013-2014 ice hockey season was the largest the Ice Cardinals have seen in more than 12 years. Sporting a roster of 29 student-athletes, the team was able to man both Varsity and a Junior Varsity team. Under the leadership of Team Captain Duke Roach and Assistant Captains Stephen Gerke and Phil Thomas the varsity team finished up the season strong.

The 2013-14 Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League (NVSHL) All-Star game was held on Wednesday, February 19th, at the Ashburn Ice House.  Bishop Ireton was represented by Senior Stephen Gerke and Junior Ryan Scott.  Gerke scored the first goal of the game, and netted 2 overall, to help lead the Norris-Patrick squad to an 11-5 victory over the Adams-Smythe team.  Scott was the first Junior from Bishop Ireton selected to an All-Star team in more than 5 years.

Looking ahead, the Ice Cardinals will be led by Captain Ryan Scott and Assistant Captains Ryan Lucas, Wendell Beane, and Tim Newell for the 2014-2015 season. The Bishop Ireton Ice Hockey Team would like to thank all the coaches, managers, parents, and fans for helping make this season a success. Special thanks go to Ireton’s Head Athletic Trainer, Matt Horton for his assistance and support to the team.
