Cardinals Ready to Begin 2011 Football Season

Cardinals' head coach Tony Verducci is anxious for his fifth campaign at the helm of football program.According to Bishop Ireton Head Coach Tony Verducci, the Cardinal football team’s focus on the 2011 season began to narrow as soon as the 2010 campaign closed with a win over St. Mary’s Ryken.  Verducci, beginning his fifth year has head coach noted that, “Collectively, we were disappointed to have lost five very close games last year and dedicated ourselves to being better prepared to finish games in 2011.”  With the 2011 season start just around the corner Verducci  is pleased with the team’s preparation and looks forward to getting things started the week of August 8 in preparation for the season opener on September 2, 2011 against the Bishop O’Connell Knights.

Varsity players report on the evening of August 9, 2011 for gear issue as well as strength and conditioning testing.  All freshmen and most sophomore players are due to report at 5:00 PM on August 10 to get their preseason preparation started.  Individuals must have a Virginia high School League Physical on file (dated June 1, 2011 or later) and are to arrive in athletic shorts and tee shirt with both football shoes and athletic shoes.  Coach Verducci and JV head coach Harry Busch will host a parent meeting at 7:00 PM on August 10, 2011 to discuss the team training camp trip to Randolph Macon Academy from August 14 – 19, 2011 and all other aspects of the Cardinal football program.

Coach Verducci invites those who have not played football to join the team by arriving at either the August 9th or August 10th reporting dates.  The majority of new players have no “organized” football experience and the Cardinal staff is experienced at presenting the fundamentals and instilling a love of this great sport.  Contact the coach at verducca@bishopireton.org if you have additional questions.  Get ready for a special season on Cambridge Road!
